No! Previous experience is welcome, but not required for any of our volunteer opportunities. We provide the guidance and instruction needed for your specific role. We ask that volunteers are dependable, willing to learn, and able to follow program policies and trainer instructions.
Puppy Raisers temporarily welcome a young program puppy into their home, typically from around 8 weeks until 12–20 weeks of age, providing everyday care, routine exposure, and attending scheduled training.
Volunteer Trainers do not take a dog home. Instead, they attend scheduled group classes and handle a program dog during training, practicing skills under the direction of our trainers.
Potentially! Having other pets does not automatically prevent you from becoming a Puppy Raiser. We consider the individual household, resident animals, environment, and needs of each puppy when determining an appropriate placement.
Dogs may be assigned based on training goals, experience level, attendance, and what each program dog needs that day. Working with different dogs can also help volunteers develop stronger and more adaptable handling skills.
Absolutely. Not every volunteer position involves handling a dog. Event Volunteers can help with setup, booths, activities, supplies, greeting visitors, cleanup, and other tasks necessary to keep events running smoothly.
We'll review your application and determine which opportunity may be a good fit. Approved volunteers will receive information about program expectations, policies, upcoming opportunities, and any training or orientation required before getting started.
Yes! Minors may participate in select volunteer opportunities with parent or legal guardian permission. Available roles may depend on the volunteer’s age, maturity, experience, and the dogs or activities involved. For safety, minors may be required to have a parent or guardian present, and handling program dogs is always at the discretion of our trainers.
