The AKC Canine Good Citizen titles recognize dogs that demonstrate dependable manners, obedience, and responsible behavior both at home and in public. The CGC evaluates essential foundational skills and everyday manners, the CGCA builds upon those skills by testing advanced behavior in real community settings, and the CGCU evaluates a dog’s ability to remain calm, controlled, and responsive in busy urban environments. Each title builds upon the skills developed in the previous level, giving owners a clear path toward reliable real-world obedience.
The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program gives young puppies a strong start by developing essential manners, appropriate socialization, confidence, and foundational obedience while also teaching owners responsible puppy care and training. We offer S.T.A.R. Puppy classes twice each year, providing guided practice and preparation before concluding with the official evaluation required to earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy award.

While formal training is not required, dogs should be comfortable performing the skills included in the evaluation before testing. We also offer training classes to help prepare dogs for success.
If a dog does not pass the evaluation, they are welcome to continue practicing and retest at a later date. We'll explain which skills need improvement and offer recommendations to help your team prepare.
Yes. Dogs that successfully pass receive the appropriate AKC title and certificate after the evaluation is submitted to the American Kennel Club. They also receive a small ribbon and S&S K9 Certification.
